Draft a Will with a Notary Public in Downtown Vancouver

If you own a house, you should get a lawyer or notary public to help you draft a will.

A study by Mustel Group via BC Notaries found that of 500 respondents, only half have drafted a will but nearly 75% of respondents own a home.

The Dangers Of Not Having A Will

The results of this survey are concerning because there’s a disproportionate amount of homeowners to individuals without a Will. A Will ensures that your property and decisions are properly distributed to your family and loved ones according to your wishes, should anything happen to you.

If there is no Will in place, your real estate may not be properly distributed the way you would want it to be. The Province of BC may decide how assets are divided, instead.

Regardless of your age, if you own property you should draft a will.

Aforementioned research by Mustel Group found that only 13% of homeowners under the age of 35 have drafted a Will, even though 50% of these respondents own a home. The study also found that 56% of families do not have a will in place – which is crucial if the family has any dependent children.

If a Will is not drafted properly, dependent children may have to wait in foster care until the courts decide on a suitable Guardian – a process that compounds problems on your child during a time of great stress.

With a Will in place, your appointed Guardian will be able to care for your child immediately after your passing, which will help comfort your child during this uneasy time.
